“My father worked for the airline when I was growing up. We moved around the country a lot. And when the opportunity came in his career we eventually settled right here in Indiana. Even bringing my grandparents to live with us in their golden years, this in an add-on to our home we built as a family. A couple of years into our Lavelle Homestead, he and 3,500 other Hoosiers were met with hardship and ended up losing their jobs at the maintenance facility they worked in when it closed down. Not one to stay down for long, he brought along some friends who had also lost their jobs and returned back to an earlier craft on the advice of his priest and an old friend. A friend, who happened to be his old window cleaning boss. The rest was years of knocking doors, hand delivering flyers, working those long days and nights and offering a great service at a great price. It all worked out and saved our family and the families of his friends from a trip to another state. They had all made a home here and he worked to keep it that way in that time. Today he and his friends have moved on toward retirement, as his son I have had the privilege to continue his legacy in creating careers for my friends and other folks willing to put in a little honest work.
